Major General (Retd) C M D P Chandrasekare (Prasanna) was born on 10th September 1965 in Kadugannawa (Central Province – Sri Lanka). He studied at the prestigious Dharmaraja College, Kandy from the year 1970 to 1984 where he excelled at both academics and sports. He enlisted into the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 1st November 1985 and underwent his basic military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyathalawa and Officers’ Training School in Pakistan. On successful completion of the training, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and posted to Sri Lanka Signal Corps on 24th July 1986. Subsequently, he was promoted to the ranks of Lieutenant (1989), Captain (1990), Major (1995), Lieutenant Colonel (2005), Colonel (2009), Brigadier (2013), and Major General (2019) respectively.
In his senior level achievements, he was the Director General, Real Estate and Quartering of the Sri Lanka Army from 2017 to 2019 who was responsible for planning and allocation of accommodation, and acquisition and renting of lands and buildings to the whole Sri Lanka Army. Finally, he served as the Master General Ordnance of the Sri Lanka Army having his good office at the Army Headquarters from December 2019 to September 2020. Master General Ordnance is responsible for the formulation of policies relevant to all material management function in the Army as per Financial Regulations, Procurement Guidelines, Treasury Circulars, Directives of the Ministry of Defence and implementation through the under-command Directorates and Establishments whereas approximately 450 Officers served under his Command. In addition, he was the Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Women Corps from February 2020 to September 2020 and Chairman of the Army Aquatic and Water Polo Committee.
Major General Prasanna Chandrasekere has completed 34 plus years of steadfast service in the Sri Lanka Army at the time of his retirement from the service on 9th September 2020. During his illustrious tour of duty, he had participated most of military operations conducted against terrorism in Sri Lanka, upholding different responsibilities in various command, staff, and instructional appointments commensurate with his ranks held that blends with his wide experience in the field.
Major General Prasanna Chandrasekere is an alumnus of the prestigious Collage of Defence Studies, National Defence University of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) China and had obtained the post-graduation – Master of Military Science and Strategic Studies MSc (MS&S) along with the title of ‘ndu’(National Defence University).
After the retirement, he joined the Government Sector and attached to State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education Research and Innovation from 5th October 2020 and functioned as a Coordinating Secretary up to 1st July 2021. His job responsibility was to coordinate with all Government officials / other Ministries Including arranging a meeting / discussion in related to respective Ministry.
From the State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education Research, and Innovation, he was attached to National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) on 2nd July 2021 and hold a following appointments on contact basis, until he requested and resigned on 23rd September 2022.
